On Friday, 4 April 2025, we were excited to host a grand opening of our new centre at 114 Church Street, Wollongong. This very special ceremony celebrated the completion of the centre and a significant milestone in Interchange Illawarra’s 43+ year history.
The grand opening was attended by our invited guests, colleagues, participants, parents, carers and staff members.
We enjoyed a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Aunty Sharralyn Robinson, a history of Interchange by Life Member, Glenda Pearce, a Chairperson’s address by Susan Wallis, and speeches from Alison Byrnes MP, and Tania Brown, Lord Mayor of Wollongong.
The official ceremony was concluded with testimonials from Interchange participants, Kristy and Ebony, who have been enjoying activities in the new centre.
In a surprise move by CEO, Jake Pearson, the building was officially named ‘The Wallis Centre’ in honour of Susan Wallis, our Chairperson and long time supporter of Interchange Illawarra.
Following the official proceedings guests were invited to view the new space and enjoy morning tea.
We give special thanks to Interchange Illawarra participant, Amy, who donated several artworks to adorn the walls of the Wallis Centre.
