Carers Week 2024

October 17, 2024Sally Hall

National Carers Week runs from 13 to 19 October 2024. It is a week in which we can recognise the 3 million Australians who provide care to a family member or friend.

Interchange Illawarra held a special Carers Week lunch with a view yesterday, at Wollongong Golf Club, to celebrate the parents and carers of Interchange participants.

There are many ways you can show carers you care.

For example:

  • Show your support by checking-in on carers regularly.
  • Offer to provide carers a break so they can recharge e.g. you could offer to run errands or help with household chores.
  • Invite them to a social activity. It doesn’t need to be elaborate – something like going for a walk or grabbing a coffee will likely be appreciated.
  • Be an empathetic listener.
  • Encourage self-care.
