Big Fat Smile runs a supported playgroups facilitated by qualified early childhood professionals, experienced in working with children who have disabilities and their families.
The supported playgroup is for children with disabilities (between birth and school age) held every Tuesday morning during school terms at Cringila Public School. The playgroup is designed to provide developmentally appropriate play opportunities for children, and an opportunity for parents to meet other parents who may share some similar experiences. The playgroup is facilitated by early childhood trained educators with experience working with children with a range of disabilities and support needs, and the coordinator, Jane Warren, has additional postgraduate qualifications in this are. Their is no cost to families to attend and they can attend weekly for as long as they like.
There is no formal referral process required. Your child does not need to have a diagnosis – if a parent has concerns regarding their child’s development or if they are in the process of a diagnosis, it is also fine to attend.
The facilitator can provide advice and information on parenting issues and community support. They can demonstrate some key techniques based around play, communication skills and positive guidance.
